Mandatory requirements:
- The equivalent of 4+ years of substantial professional experience in a disaster recovery specialist role.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related field
- One or more of the following certifications or equivalent:
- ISC2: CISSP
- ISACA: CISM, CRISC, CISA, CGEIT
- ISO 27001 Lead Auditor / Lead Implementer
- CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner+
- ISO 22301 Lead Implementer / Lead Auditor / Certified Business Continuity Management certificates should be listed
Our public sector client requires a Disaster Recovery Specialist. The Disaster Recovery Specialist will be responsible for supporting the development and communication of the entire disaster recovery management program. The Disaster Recovery Specialist will also be responsible for supporting the development and communication of the disaster recovery management program for a major project.
The principal objective of the disaster recovery program is to develop, test and document a structured and easily understood plan which will help our client to recover as quickly and effectively as possible from an unforeseen disaster or emergency which interrupts information systems and business operations. It will support IT systems resilience and timely IT operations recovery, regardless of cause.
The successful applicant will be responsible for documenting the IT operations recovery and resiliency needs of the entire company. For this reason, the Disaster Recovery Specialist must be prepared to work across many different internal and external organizations, and with stakeholders in many different disciplines, including senior corporate leadership, the management board, Business managers, IT staff, HR, legal, audit, cyber security and facilities management in providing guidance and expertise to deliver a high-quality disaster recovery program to the organisation.
The following Experience/Competencies/Skillsets are applicable to this Role.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of current DR planning techniques and technologies, as well as the methods used to perform risk analyses and business impact analyses.
- Experience in Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP) software to identify data and computer systems that may need to be recovered, plan offsite data storage and computing facilities, and test data recovery procedures.
- Developing a comprehensive IT Disaster Recovery Plan.
- Experience in planning for both natural disasters and malicious attacks.
- Engage with business & system owners to identify & prioritise critical systems.
- Manage comprehensive testing of the Disaster Recovery Plan by overseeing adequate testing of the plan: Checklist Review Test; Tabletop Exercise; Simulation Test; Parallel Test; Full-Interruption Test.
- Backup, recovery, storage systems and IT security management
- Vendor management of external DR service providers
- Experience in defining, implementing and enforcing risk-based standards, processes and procedures for responding to disruptions in business or IT operations.
Industry and Regulatory Experience:
- Understanding of and documented experience in applying ISO
- 27001, ITIL v3, DRI International (DRII) or Business Continuity Institute (BCI) professional practices, as well as industry-specific regulations and regulatory bodies.
Key Deliverables, are applicable to this role:
- Develop a disaster recovery plan which will cover all essential and critical infrastructure elements, systems and networks, in accordance with key business activities.
- Participate in assessments of the impact of potential disruptions in IT services, including declaring a disaster and activating the DR plan.
- Development & maintenance of Disaster Recovery environments & components.
- Planning & implementing Disaster Recovery tests scenarios. The successful DR program leader should be able to translate business operations recovery requirements into action-oriented plans, programs, data centre infrastructures and recovery testing strategies.
- Understand critical ICT services and identify infrastructure components to build out DR environments.
- Conduct Business Impact Analyses to determine what resources are necessary to continue business functionality.
- Engage with business & system owners to & prioritise critical systems.
- Oversee the design, execution and continuous improvement of DR plans through rigorous exercising.
