NEWS Dropbox is laying off another 500 employees
eir evo talent: Dropbox employs hundreds of staff in Ireland, predominately through its Dublin office. Though it is not yet clear how this news will impact them but we would imagine it will at the least cause people to consider their options.
File storage platform Dropbox is cutting 20pc of its workforce, or 528 employees, the company announced.
In a memo to staff, CEO Drew Houston said the company is in a “transitional period” and that maintaining the current structure and investment levels is no longer sustainable.
“We continue to see softening demand and macro headwinds in our core business,” he said. “In some parts of the business, we’re still not delivering at the level our customers deserve or performing in line with industry peers.”
He added that the cuts will be in areas where Dropbox has “over-invested” or is “underperforming”, while also designing a flatter, more efficient team structure overall.
NEWS Ocula Technologies Raises £4M in Series A Funding

Ocula Technologies, a Belfast and London, UK-based AI-driven eCommerce solution provider, raised £4M in Series a funding.
Led by Thomas McKenna, Ocula provides e-commerce players with a SaaS based boost, customer intelligence and price optimization platform. In conjunction with the funding, the company has launched a new feature designed to enhance eCommerce product copy that creates product pages. The AI-driven tool creates search-optimized, brand-aligned copy at scale, tailored for multi-language support. The system creates tangible revenue uplifts and efficiency gains for brands like AO.com, Blain’s Farm & Fleet, Coty and other known retailers in the US and the UK.
NEWS Irish data and AI startup Zerve raises €7m in funding
eir evo talent: The company dont have any active roles on their site but we would imagine will look to grow their team both on a technical as well as business side of the house.
Irish AI and data startup Zerve has announced that it has raised $7.6m (€7m) in a funding round led by Paladin Capital Group.
The investment also involved participation from existing investor Elkstone and angel investors including former Executive Vice President of Engineering at Data Robot, Rob Hickey.
Zerve has developed an end-to-end platform which uses AI to simplify the building, managing and deployment of data workflows.
The company raised $3.8m in pre-seed funding in October 2023 led by Elkstone, and commercially launched its product in February of this year.
NEWS Wrksense raises €825,000 in pre-seed funding for global expansion

Wrksense, an AI-driven HR tech start-up has raised €825,000 in pre-seed funding to fuel its global expansion, enhance its AI features and build strategic partnerships with players in the recruitment industry
The pre-seed fund is supported by a group of angel investors along with Enterprise Ireland’s High Potential Start-up (HPSU) fund.
Founded in 2023 by Andrew Connolly, former managing director of Morgan McKinley Canada, and Ruaidhrí McDonnell, former head of software architecture at Spencer Stuart and eShopworld, Wrksense is designed specifically for recruitment agencies.
The platform, integrating itself with customer relationship management systems, enables agencies to tailor their service offering and scale by offering AI-powered tools for project management and reporting.
NEWS Digital health platform to create 200 new jobs in the next year

Digital health company Spectrum.Life has announced plans to recruit 200 new employees in Ireland and the UK by the end of next year. The strategy was announced last night (8 October) at Enterprise Ireland’s UK and Irish business leaders dinner hosted by the Irish ambassador to Great Britain, Martin Fraser.
The company, which surpassed 300 employees in September, plans to solidify its position in the quickly evolving health-tech industry. It is looking to recruit skilled professionals across a range of sectors, including in clinical positions, senior leadership and business development
NEWS Tech consulting firm Noesis to create 30 jobs in Dundalk

30 new jobs are to be created by Portugese tech consulting company Noesis at a new IT centre of excellence in Dundalk.
The new roles will be added over the next three years and will be in areas such as quality management and devops, data analytics and AI, and enterprise solutions.
It is the latest expansion in Europe by Lisbon based Noesis and part of a global growth plan by the firm
NEWS Cybersecurity company EXPEL to create 50 new jobs in Ireland

Virginia-based managed detection and response (MDR) services provider Expel, has today (7 October) announced plans to establish a fully remote team of 50 in Ireland, as part of its EMEA expansion strategy.
The company has received support from IDA Ireland and intends to hire for 50 highly-skilled cybersecurity positions over the next three years. Expel was founded in 2016 and aims to build cyber resilience and minimise risk, serving a broad range of industries, such as aviation, technology and professional sports.
Expel first expanded into the EMEA region in late 2022, becoming available to costumers in Ireland, Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands.
The company’s latest plans for Ireland indicate the country’s reputation as a global hub for technology and cybersecurity innovation.
NEWS Newry’s FD Technologies sells unit to US firm in a deal worth almost €275m

FD Technologies announced today that it would sell its First Derivative business to EPAM Systems for £230m (€274.1m).
The company, then known as First Derivatives, was founded in 1996 by the late Brian Conlon, who financed the company with a £5,000 loan from the Newry Credit Union.
It provides consulting services for capital markets, and has staff based in a string of global centres from London to Singapore, as well as its base in Newry
The sale of the unit must be approved by shareholders in the publicly-listed company before being completed.

SuperNode said the new funding will be used for the further development of innovative superconducting transmission technology
SuperNode, which was founded in 2018 by the late Eddie O’Connor, is supported by IDA Ireland and has an Irish workforce of over 60.
The company develops revolutionary superconducting transmission technology for the renewable energy transition.
NEWS CalypsoAI to double Irish workforce as it opens co-headquarters in Dublin

Artificial intelligence security company CalypsoAI is to double its workforce in Ireland, adding 50 jobs in the next year. The news came as the company opened its new offices in Dublin, which will serve as its co-headquarters with New York
Founded by Neil Serebryany in 2018, CalypsoAI offers an adaptive AI security platform to companies, allowing them to use AI technology including large-language models, or generative AI. It ensures data remains secure, protecting organisations from data leaks, and using GenAI to fight GenAI, protecting against other online security threats known as jailbreaks, hallucinations and prompt injection attacks.
NEWS Galway-based Ordú creates jobs with €1.5m investment
eir evo talent: The company are small at the moment and so this investment will move the needle. It will be interesting to monitor the profile of hire they are able to attract.
Ordú, which provides online ordering systems for food, is planning to expand its offering and workforce following a €1.5m investment.
The funds are part of a partnership with global kiosk manufacturer Lazenby Group. The investment will facilitate the expansion of the Galway-based company’s service offering across various industries including fast food, hospitality, pubs and restaurants, retail and pharmacies.
The fresh funding will also see the creation of 10 new jobs in product development, which will be filled in the next 12 months. It will also support the roll-out of new technologies.
NEWS Nvidia signs deal to work with Irish quantum computing company

Irish quantum computing company Equal1 has signed a deal with US chipmaker giant Nvidia to work together on quantum computing.
The groups signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on quantum technology use cases, business models, and proof of concept, with a particular focus on the integration and validation of quantum-classical infrastructure for cloud and data centre deployments.
Equal1 has offices in Clonskeagh, Dublin, as well as the US, Canada, Romania, and the Netherlands.
