NEWS GridBeyond secures €11.25m for joint venture expansion

GridBeyond, the smart energy company that raised €52 million earlier this year from backers, has secured an additional €11.25 million in investment for a joint venture it is part of that is rolling out ‘beyond-the-meter’ battery energy storage systems across Ireland and Britain.

By bridging the gap between distributed energy resources and electricity markets, GridBeyond’s technology means every connected asset – whether utility-scale renewables generation, battery storage, or industrial load – can be utilized to help maximize opportunities and enhance the grid.

NEWS New York audio giant Sirius XM opens Dublin tech hub with 200 jobs

SiriusXM, a leading audio entertainment company in the United States, announced today the opening of a new state-of-the-art technology facility in Dublin, Ireland. The Company’s Dublin-based employees are expected to play a critical role in the audio entertainment company’s continued digital transformation, and will function as a center of excellence for SiriusXM’s Product and Technology organization. SiriusXM is supported by the Irish government through IDA Ireland.

SiriusXM’s Dublin workforce will primarily focus on software development, automotive technology and engineering, adtech, data science, and analytics. Talent based in the new technology hub will be charged with developing and implementing best-in-class standards for high-quality, scalable software deliveries for SiriusXM’s streaming and in-vehicle audio entertainment platforms.

NEWS Payslip gets €1.5m boost from venture capital backers in AI tech push

eir evo talent: The funding would also help to improve its AI technology, with a plan to deliver “market-unique business insights from Payslip’s standardised global payroll data to our customers”.

Payslip, the Co Mayo-based payroll technology company, has raised €1.5m in a funding round as it looks to enhance its artificial intelligence offering.

The investment for the Westport-headquartered company, founded by entrepreneur Fidelma McGuirk in 2016, was a follow-on round from previous backers, including Irish-based venture capital firms Frontline Ventures and Tribal.VC.

Payslip has also recently appointed new members to its board. These include David Clarke, the former chief technology officer at HR technology company Workday, and Barry Dowling, co-founder of global payments company Transfermate.

NEWS Nostra announces 70 new jobs amid Ireland expansion

eir evo talent: Nostra, which currently employs 350 people mostly in Ireland, is looking to add professionals to the Galway security team, the Dublin marketing, service, engineering and account management teams, and additional experts across a variety of functions in Cork.

Dublin-based IT company Nostra has today (7 November) announced the creation of 70 new jobs, to be filled over the coming 12 months. The news was revealed as part of a company report highlighting a strong financial year that saw a 27pc increase in year-on-year revenue.

Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Dublin 12, Nostra provides IT and cybersecurity services to a range of sectors. The recruitment of new talent is part of the company’s expansion plans which are driven by a focus on meeting global cybersecurity demand

NEWS Marine drone firm Ulysses Ecosystem Engineering raises $2m

eir evo talent: The company are based in the US but with their Irish roots they are worth monitoring to see if there will be growth here in the future.

Autonomous marine drone startup, Ulysses Ecosystem Engineering, has raised $2m in pre-seed funding.

The oversubscribed round was led by Lowercarbon Capital.

But Superorganism, the world’s first biodiversity VC, and ReGen Ventures, an investor in planetary-scale regenerative technologies, also participated.

Angel investors, including Intercom co-founders Eoghan McCabe and Ciaran Lee, also took part.

NEWS Microsoft to add 550 jobs in Ireland covering AI and cybersecurity roles

eir evo talent: The tech company said it would recruit for 120 jobs immediately. The jobs will be in software engineering, applied sciences, security research, product management and programme management, with about 15 to 20 per cent of the roles set aside for graduates or those early in their career. The remaining 430 jobs will be added in the next three to four years depending on customer demand.

Tech giant Microsoft is to create up to 550 jobs in Ireland over the next three to four years as the company invests heavily in its artificial intelligence (AI) operations.

The investment comes as Ireland has been chosen as a key location for Microsoft’s global AI innovation ambitions, aiding in the development of new technologies for its global operations and spanning some of the company’s key focus areas for the future.
